Products Description of 2-Phenoxyethanol CAS#122-99-6
Phenoxyethanol is a traditional preservative. It is a colorless, slightly viscous oily liquid with a faint aromatic odor and a burning sensation. Slightly soluble in water and almost insoluble in mineral oil, it is miscible with acetone, ethanol, and glycerin in any ratio. Phenoxyethanol exerts a significant bactericidal effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and also inhibits both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Its antibacterial mechanism involves acting on the bacterial cell membrane: it increases the permeability of potassium ions and reduces enzyme activity, thereby inhibiting cell growth to achieve antibacterial effects. When used alone as a preservative, it has poor efficacy at low concentrations, while high concentrations may cause skin burning and stinging. Therefore, it needs to be used incombination with other preservative ingredients.

Product Application of 2-Phenoxyethanol CAS#122-99-6
The most widely known application of 2-phenoxyl ethanol is that it typically functions as a preservative, antibacterial agent, and fixative for fragrances. It is a very common and relatively safe preservative in cosmetics, often used as a substitute for traditional preservatives that release formaldehyde. It inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi in products such as skin care products, sunscreen, shampoos, etc. According to relevant cosmetic safety technical specifications, its maximum allowable concentration in cosmetics is 1%.
Due to its excellent solubility properties, it also plays an important role in industrial manufacturing, commonly used as a solvent for coatings/ink, fragrance fixative, disinfectant, and insect repellent aid; in medicine, it is used as a disinfection and antiseptic drug. In the agricultural field, it is often used to prepare components of insecticides and other pesticide chemical intermediates.
