Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) exhibits varying appearances—from colorless, transparent, and volatile liquids to highly viscous liquids or silicone gels—depending on its relative molecular mass. It possesses physiological inertness, excellent chemical stability, electrical insulation, and weather resistance, along with a wide viscosity range, low freezing point, high flash point, superior hydrophobicity, and strong shear resistance. It can be used continuously at temperatures between -50℃ and 180℃. Additionally, PDMS features good permeability, making it an ideal carrier material for various biochemical sensors.
