Products Description of N,N-Dimethylformamide CAS#68-12-2
Dimethylformamide (DMF) is a colorless, flammable liquid with a fishy smell. It has a molecular weight of 73.11, a boiling point of 153°C, a freezing point of -61°C, a flash point of 58°C, and a vapor pressure of 3 mmHg at 20°C.
This substance is soluble in both water and organic solvents, and it poses multiple hazards. These include flammability (with explosive limits ranging from 2.2% LEL to 15.2% UEL), toxicity, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, and skin-irritating properties.
DMF is widely utilized across various industries as a solvent, playing a key role in the production of acrylic fibers, pharmaceuticals, dyes, petroleum products, and organic chemicals. It also functions as a gasoline additive and finds applications in the electronics field.

Product Application of N,N-Dimethylformamide CAS#68-12-2
N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) is primarily used as a solvent and extractant, especially for salts and high-molecular-mass compounds. This application aligns with its unique combination of physical and chemical properties: low molecular mass, high dielectric constant, electron-donating ability, and complex-forming capacity.
Commercially speaking, DMF’s use as a component in synthesis is relatively insignificant. Anhydrous N,N-dimethylformamide has been utilized as a solvent in the synthesis of AN-152—a cytotoxic luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH) conjugate and chemotherapeutic drug—and the fluorophore C625 [4-(N,N-diphenylamino)-4′-(6-O-hemiglutarate)hexylsulfinyl stilbene]. It can also serve as a solvent medium for various organic reduction reactions.
