Product Details

Products Description of Ethylene glycol CAS 107-21-1

Ethylene glycol is primarily used to formulate antifreeze for automotive cooling systems and to produce polyethylene terephthalate— a raw material for polyester fibers and polyester plastics.

It can also be utilized in manufacturing synthetic resins, solvents, lubricants, surfactants, softeners, wetting agents, explosives, and other products. Often serving as a substitute for glycerol, ethylene glycol acts as a humectant in the leather industry and a solvent in the pharmaceutical industry.

Despite its strong solubility, ethylene glycol is easily metabolized and oxidized in the body to form toxic oxalic acid, which prevents it from being widely used as a solvent.
