Loratadine CAS#79794-75-5
Loratadine is a widely used non-hormonal antiallergic medication, classified as a second-generation long-acting tricyclic antihistamine. It acts quickly with potent effects, metabolizing into the more active desloratadine after human absorption. By competitively blocking histamine H1 receptors, it alleviates histamine-induced allergic reactions, with no significant anticholinergic or central depressant effects. Clinically, it relieves allergic rhinitis symptoms (e.g., sneezing, runny nose, nasal and ocular itching/burning) and addresses allergic skin conditions like chronic urticaria. Toxicologically, animal studies show no mutagenic or teratogenic properties.
