Products Description of Trichloroacetic acid CAS# 76-03-9
Trichloroacetic acid is abbreviated as TCA. It is a colorless or white orthorhombic crystal, highly deliquescent, with a faint special pungent odor and strong corrosiveness.
Its relative molecular mass is 163.40, relative density is 1.6298 (at 61°C), melting point is 57–58°C, and boiling point is 197.5°C (or 141–142°C under 3.333×10³Pa). The heat of combustion is 3.0kJ, refractive index is 1.4603 (at 61°C), and vapor pressure is 0.133×10³Pa (at 51°C).It is easily soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is acidic (the pH of a 0.1 mol/L aqueous solution is 1.2). It is also soluble in ethanol and ether. Its solubility at 25°C is 1306 (in water), 2143 (in methanol), and 617 (in ether).Aqueous solutions with a concentration below 30% decompose slowly into chloroform, hydrogen chloride, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and other substances. It hydrolyzes into chloroform and carbon dioxide in dilute alkaline solutions, and generates formic acid in concentrated alkaline solutions. When reacting with strong alkalis, it decomposes into chloroform and carbonate.
