Product Details

Products Description of Ferric chloride CAS#7705-08-0

Ferric chloride is a black-brown hexagonal crystal—pomegranate red in transmitted light and metallic green in reflected light. It is highly soluble in water, methanol, ethanol, acetone, and ether, soluble in liquid sulfur dioxide, phosphorus tribromide, phosphorus oxychloride, ethylamine, and aniline, slightly soluble in carbon disulfide, and insoluble in glycerol. It is mainly used as a water treatment agent, as well as a mordant, catalyst, chlorinating agent, and raw material for manufacturing other iron salts.

Product Application of Ferric chloride CAS#7705-08-0

It acts as a catalyst in organic synthesis, an analytical reagent for the detection of copper, selenium and arsenic, as well as an indicator for phenol, cholesterol and choline determination.

It is also applied as an analytical reagent and developer for thin-layer chromatography (TLC).

Its major application covers water treatment, together with wide uses as a dye mordant, organic catalyst, chlorinating agent, and raw material for producing various iron salts. It is also utilized for water purification, printing plate making, pigment & dye manufacturing and pharmaceutical intermediate synthesis.

In particular, ferric chloride is adopted as a flocculant for drinking water purification and a precipitant for industrial wastewater disposal. In textile printing & dyeing industry, it works as oxidant and mordant for indigo dyeing. It serves as a catalyst for organic synthesis (such as 1,2-dichloroethane production), chlorination leaching agent for copper and silver ores, and etching agent for photographic materials and printing plates.
