Products Description of 2-Butoxyethanol CAS#111-76-2

2-Butoxyethanol (2-BE) is a clear, colorless liquid with an ether-like smell. It is mainly synthesized via two methods: the reaction of ethylene oxide with butyl alcohol, or the reaction of ethylene glycol with dibutyl sulfate. It is widely used as a solvent in protective coatings such as lacquers, enamels, varnishes, and latex paints. It also acts as a key component in various products, including paint thinners, strippers, agricultural chemicals, herbicides, industrial and household cleaners (degreasers), metal cleaners, inks, dry-cleaning compounds, liquid soaps, and cosmetics. Its acetate derivative—2-butoxyethanol acetate (also known as ethylene glycol monobutyl ether acetate)—can contaminate air, water, and soil during its manufacturing process, industrial application, and product formulation stages.

Product Application of  2-Butoxyethanol CAS#111-76-2
2-Butoxyethanol acts as a reagent in two key synthesis processes: the production of 4-butoxyethoxy-N-octadecyl-1,8-naphthalimide—a novel fluorescent probe for protein determination—and the synthesis of 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde derivatives that function as tyrosinase inhibitors.

It is widely employed as a coupling solvent, thanks to its excellent coupling efficiency and strong solvency for resins. Also known as ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, it serves as a solvent for nitrocellulose, resins, oils, and greases, and is additionally used in dry cleaning applications.
