Sodium N-lauroylsarcosinate is also commonly referred to as "dodecanoic acid sarcosinate" in the ingredient list. Its high-purity form is a white powder (with the active ingredient content usually above 95%). In industrial cosmetics, 30% of the active ingredient is commonly used, presenting as a clear and transparent pale yellow liquid. It is a very mild amino acid-based anionic surfactant, mainly produced by the reaction of lauric acid and sarcosine (a natural amino acid). Due to its mild nature and good biodegradability, it is highly popular in personal care and cosmetic products.It has a risk factor of 3, making it relatively safe for use with confidence. The FDA has approved it for direct use as a food additive, while the CIR permits its use in both rinse-off and leave-on products at concentrations not exceeding 5%.
