Products Description of Isopropyl alcohol CAS#67-63-0
Isopropanol, commonly referred to as rubbing alcohol, is a clear, colorless alcoholic substance. It serves as a key raw material for acetone production and acts as a solvent in manufacturing a wide range of industrial and commercial goods, while also being widely used by the general public for various applications. This substance is flammable and exhibits miscibility with water as well as numerous organic solvents. Three primary methods are employed for isopropanol synthesis: the indirect hydration of propylene (known as the "strong acid" method), the direct hydration of propylene, and the catalytic hydrogenation of acetone.

Product Application of Isopropyl alcohol CAS#67-63-0
Isopropyl alcohol boasts diverse applications across multiple fields. It functions as a solvent in industrial processes and coating production, a key component in cleaning products, car care items and deicing agents, a wetting agent for printing inks, and a raw material for manufacturing esters as well as Mogas/Luboil additives. In skincare formulations, it serves three roles: carrier, antibacterial agent, and solvent. This alcohol is derived from propylene, a byproduct of petroleum processing.Compared with ethanol, it requires 50% less volume to achieve nucleic acid precipitation. This advantage reduces the total volume that needs centrifugation during DNA or RNA recovery. The 70% concentration of isopropyl alcohol is widely used in alcohol swabs and wipes for wound cleansing. It is also an ingredient in hand sanitizers and ear drops designed to prevent swimmer's ear.
