Cimetidine CAS#51481-61-9
Cimetidine is an H2 receptor antagonist. It strongly stops stomach acid secretion triggered by food, histamine or pentagastrin, and lowers the acid level. It helps prevent and protect against corrosive gastritis from chemical irritation. It also works well for stress-induced gastric ulcers and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. This drug has anti-androgen effects, so it’s somewhat useful for treating hirsutism. It weakens the activity of immunosuppressive cells and boosts immune response, which can stop tumor spread and extend survival time.Clinically, it’s used to treat duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, upper gastrointestinal bleeding and other related conditions.

Cimetidine CAS#51481-61-9 Application
Cimetidine, first marketed in 1975, is the pioneering selective H2 receptor antagonist indicated for peptic ulcer treatment. It primarily suppresses gastric acid secretion and reduces gastric acid acidity, offering preventive and protective effects against chemical-induced corrosive gastritis. It also delivers notable therapeutic outcomes for stress-induced gastric ulcers and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. As a histamine H2 receptor antagonist, it inhibits gastric acid secretion triggered by histamine, as well as that induced by food, pentagastrin, caffeine, and insulin. It also curtails basal gastric acid production, making it suitable for treating gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, peptic esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.Beyond its established use for peptic ulcer management, cimetidine acts as an H2 histamine receptor antagonist, an I1 imidazoline receptor agonist, and an anti-ulcer agent. It hinders cancer cell metastasis by downregulating selectin expression on endothelial cell surfaces, thereby blocking the adhesion of tumor cells.
