Products Description of Dioctyl sebacate CAS # 122-62-3
Dioctyl sebacate—alternatively named bis(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate and commonly abbreviated as DOS—is synthesized via the esterification of sebacic acid with 2-ethylhexanol. Compatible with polyvinyl chloride (PVC), vinyl chloride copolymers, nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, and synthetic rubbers, it offers high plasticizing efficiency, low volatility, and exceptional cold resistance, alongside favorable heat resistance, light resistance, and electrical insulation. It also exhibits excellent lubricity when heated, enhancing the appearance and tactile feel of the finished products. This plasticizer is particularly well-suited for manufacturing cold-resistant wire and cable materials, artificial leather, films, plates, sheets, and related products.

Product Application of Dioctyl sebacate CAS # 122-62-3
An outstanding cold-resistant plasticizer with low volatility, this product is suitable for use at relatively high temperatures. It boasts excellent weather resistance and electrical performance, making it an ideal choice for cold-resistant cable materials. Its drawbacks include high extractability by hydrocarbon solvents, proneness to migration, and subpar water extraction resistance. Due to its limited compatibility, it is often blended with phthalate-based plasticizers for practical applications. Beyond PVC cable materials, it is extensively utilized in PVC cold-resistant films, as well as products like artificial leather, plates, and sheets. It also functions as a plasticizer for various synthetic rubbers and plastics, including nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene, and vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers. Additionally, this product serves as a lubricating oil and grease for jet engines, and as a stationary phase for gas chromatography. Non-toxic in nature, it showed no toxic effects when administered to rats at a dosage of 200 mg/kg mixed in feed for 19 months, nor did it exhibit carcinogenicity. Consequently, it is suitable for use in food packaging materials.
