Products Description of Sodium silicate CAS#1344-09-8
Sodium silicate with the formula 2Na₂O·SiO₂ is the simplest form of glass. It exists in three main forms: greenish glass lumps that dissolve in pressurized steam, white powders with varying solubility levels, and liquids that are either cloudy or clear.
It is non-combustible, but there are safety risks to note. If its powdered form is suspended in air, it can cause a dust explosion when an ignition source is present. Inhaling the dust may also lead to health issues. Additionally, the glass form of sodium silicate can pose hazards to emergency responders in the event of an accident.
