Erucic acid amide is a high-grade fatty acid amide and an important derivative of erucic acid, refined from vegetable oil. It is a waxy, odorless solid that is insoluble in water but has a certain solubility in organic solvents such as ketones, esters, alcohols, ethers, and benzene.
Its molecular structure contains a long unsaturated C22 chain and a polar amine group, endowing it with excellent surface polarity, a high melting point, and good thermal stability. It can replace other similar additives and is widely used in industries such as plastics, rubber, printing, and machinery.
As a processing aid for plastics like polyethylene and polypropylene, it not only makes products non-sticky and improves lubricity but also enhances the thermoplasticity and heat resistance of plastics. Additionally, the product is non-toxic, and it has been approved for use in food packaging materials in foreign countries.
Adding erucic acid amide to rubber can improve the gloss, tensile strength, and elongation of rubber products, enhance vulcanization acceleration and wear resistance, and particularly prevent cracking under sunlight. When added to ink, it increases the adhesion, scratch resistance, offset resistance, and dye solubility of printing ink.
In addition, erucic acid amide can also be used as a surface polish for wax paper, a protective film for metals, and a foam stabilizer for detergents.
