Sodium hypophosphite Monohydrate is an important inorganic salt with strong reducing properties. It is usually in the form of colorless monoclinic crystalline, pearl-like crystals, or white crystalline powders/particles. It has no odor and a salty taste. It is highly soluble in water, and also soluble in ethanol and glycerol, but insoluble in ether. It is relatively stable when stored in a dry state, but has slight hygroscopicity in the presence of humid air. When heated above 200℃, it will rapidly decompose and release toxic gas phosphine (PH₃) that can spontaneously ignite.
