Products Description of Methyl salicylate CAS# 119-36-8
Methyl salicylate, also known as methyl o-hydroxybenzoate, wintergreen oil, birch oil, sweet birch oil, methyl salicylate (salicylic acid methyl ester), and tea seed oil.Naturally occurring forms of this compound are found in essential oils such as pyrola oil, wintergreen oil, birch oil, green tea seed oil, clove oil, eugenol oil, tuberose oil, schisandra oil, tea oil, and ylang-ylang oil, as well as in the juices of cherries, apples, and strawberries. It is a colorless, pale yellow, or pale yellow-red transparent oily liquid, with a strong wintergreen oil aroma. Its key properties are as follows: relative molecular mass of 152.16; relative density of 1.1738; melting point of -8.6℃; boiling point of 223.3℃; flash point of 96℃; refractive index of 1.5360.It is insoluble in water but soluble in common organic solvents like ethanol, ether, and glacial acetic acid. It tends to discolor when exposed to air. The oral LD₅₀ (lethal dose for 50% of test subjects) in rats is 887 mg/kg.
