This substance appears as white crystalline powder or colorless crystals. It dissolves well in water, with a solubility of approximately 39 g per 100 mL of water at 25°C, and its aqueous solution is weakly alkaline—typically with a pH between 9 and 10. It is stable at room temperature; when heated above 100°C, it loses its crystalline water and forms anhydrous sodium molybdate (chemical formula: Na₂MoO₄, CAS No.: 7631-95-0). When reacting with strong acids, it produces a molybdic acid (H₂MoO₄) precipitate.
