Products Description of Sodium hypochlorite CAS#7681-52-9
Sodium hypochlorite (chemical formula: NaOCl) is a pale green crystalline solid that is unstable in air. It dissolves in cold water, decomposes in hot water, and has a sweet smell. It is usually available in two common strengths: household liquid bleach contains approximately 5.25% by weight (wt%) of NaOCl, while the industrial-grade product (sometimes called "15% bleach") contains 150 grams per liter (g/L) of available chlorine.

Toxicity | Skin contact with the solid hypochlorite pentahydrate or its concentrated solution can cause irritation. Ingestion may cause corrosion of mucous membranes and gastric perforation. |
Product Application of Sodium hypochlorite CAS#7681-52-9
Sodium hypochlorite is only sold as an aqueous solution, because its anhydrous solid is extremely unstable and may explode. Its solid pentahydrate is also unstable in air—it decomposes when reacting with carbon dioxide in the air. By contrast, aqueous solutions of sodium hypochlorite are very stable, and have a range of uses: bleaching textiles and paper pulp, making cleaning solutions, purifying water, disinfecting swimming pools, and acting as a germicide and topical anti-infective.
