Magnesium stearate, also known as octadecanoic acid magnesium salt, is a white, solid powder at room temperature with the chemical formula Mg(C₁₈H₃₅O₂)₂. It is a salt composed of two equivalents of stearate (the anion of stearic acid) and one magnesium cation (Mg²⁺).

This compound melts at approximately 120 °C, is insoluble in water, and is generally regarded as safe for human consumption when the daily intake is below 2500 mg/kg.
