Product Details

Products Description of Sodium carbonate CAS#497-19-8

Sodium carbonate (CAS No. 497-19-8), with the chemical formula Na₂CO₃, is a sodium salt derived from carbonic acid. The pure form is a white, odorless powder with a distinctly alkaline taste and high hygroscopicity. It dissolves readily in water, yielding an aqueous solution with moderate alkalinity.Sodium carbonate boasts extensive applications across diverse global industries. A key use lies in glass manufacturing—statistics indicate that roughly half of the world’s total sodium carbonate output is dedicated to this sector. In glass production, it functions as a flux to facilitate the melting of silica. As a potent chemical base, it also plays a role in producing pulp and paper, textiles, drinking water, soaps and detergents, and serves as a drain cleaner. Beyond these, it is utilized for tissue digestion, dissolving amphoteric metals and related compounds, food preparation, and as a cleaning agent.

Product Application of  Sodium carbonate CAS#497-19-8

Sodium carbonate is an alkaline substance that occurs as crystals or crystalline powder, and it dissolves readily in water. It boasts multiple functional roles: antioxidant, curing and pickling agent, flavor enhancer, processing aid, sequestrant, and pH regulator. In instant soups, it is employed to neutralize acidic components. For alginate-based water dessert gels, it acts as a sequestrant to bind calcium ions, enabling the alginate to dissolve effectively. Additionally, it finds application in puddings, sauces, and various baked products.
