Erucic acid, also called cis-13-docosenoic acid, is a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid. It is present in high concentrations primarily in the seeds of Brassicaceae species—including rapeseed, mustard seed, and seeds from vegetable crops like kales, cabbages, and turnips.It is colorless needle-shaped crystals or white to slightly white waxy solid at room temperature, with a melting point of approximately 28℃ to 33℃. When the environmental temperature is above this range, it will melt into a pale yellow oily liquid. It is insoluble in water, but easily soluble in ether, and can be dissolved in ethanol and methanol.
