Products Description of Sodium hydroxide CAS# 1310-73-2
Sodium hydroxide, also known as caustic soda and lye (note: corrected duplicate alias), has the chemical formula NaOH. It is a highly corrosive strong base, typically existing as white flakes or granules. It can mix with water to form an alkaline solution and is also soluble in methanol and ethanol. This alkaline substance is deliquescent, absorbing water vapor from the air as well as acidic gases such as carbon dioxide. As one of the most commonly used chemicals, sodium hydroxide has a broad range of applications and is an essential material in numerous industrial processes: it is frequently used in the production of wood pulp paper, textiles, soaps, and other detergents, and is also found in household alkaline drain cleaners.
