Products Description of Toluene CAS#108-88-3
Toluene, alternatively named methylbenzene or toluol, carries the molecular formula C₇H₈ and belongs to the group of monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. It is a clear, mobile liquid with a characteristic aromatic scent. The compound is practically insoluble in water, and can blend completely with ethanol, ether and the majority of organic solvents. It maintains good chemical stability at room temperature and features a moderate volatility level.
This chemical is highly flammable, so storage should keep it separated from heat sources and naked flames. It is extensively deployed as a multi-purpose industrial solvent, and also acts as an essential synthetic starting material for preparing aromatic derivatives.

Product Application of Toluene CAS#108-88-3
Toluene acts as a valuable aromatic raw material and high-performance solvent applied in multiple chemical fields. It serves as a main precursor for the production of TDI, benzoic acid, cresol, benzaldehyde and other fine chemical intermediates, underpinning the manufacture of polyurethane products, pharmaceutical raw materials and dyes.
It demonstrates strong solvency for acrylic, alkyd, epoxy and polyurethane resins, which makes it widely used in solvent-borne coatings, gravure printing inks, adhesives and coating diluents. Toluene can undergo disproportionation reaction to generate benzene and xylene, helping to supplement the supply of key aromatic feedstocks. It may also be blended into gasoline to boost octane values. Moreover, it finds application in laboratory analytical work and various organic synthesis procedures.
