Tolyltriazole is a water stabilizer that inhibits corrosion by adhering to the surfaces of metal parts and machinery, preventing water from disrupting the metal’s molecular structure. It forms a sufficiently thick electrochemical barrier to repel corrosive substances—this barrier is highly durable, with excellent oxidative and thermal stability. The long-lasting protective layer it creates does not contaminate process fluids or the metal of piping systems. Similar to another corrosion inhibitor, benzotriazole, tolyltriazole contains an additional methyl group that enhances its solubility in certain organic solvents. It is particularly suitable for pure copper and copper alloys, as it protects copper from galvanic corrosion when in contact with other metals. It also safeguards cobalt, silver, and zinc, and can protect aluminum and steel when combined with other corrosion-inhibiting chemicals.
