Cryolite#15096-52-3
Cryolite is a rare mineral salt composed of sodium, fluoride, and aluminum, with its first discovery traced to Greenland’s west coast. Its natural reserves were exhausted by 1987, so cryolite is now manufactured synthetically using fluorite—a more common mineral. For pest control, it is applied at high rates (5–30 kg per hectare) to target Lepidoptera and Coleoptera insects on specific fruits, vegetables, and citrus crops. In the United States, 92% of all cryolite used is dedicated to grape cultivation in California.
