Water softener salt CAS#7647-14-5
Composed of high-purity sodium chloride, softening salt is used to restore the functionality of ion exchange resin in water softening equipment. The resin, the core part of the softener, absorbs calcium and magnesium ions (or "water hardness" ions) from raw water, earning softening salt the alternative name of ion exchange resin regenerant. Water softeners don’t require softening salt during regular water production. Instead, it’s only used when the resin’s softening ability drops: a saturated sodium chloride solution is used for backwashing to revitalize the resin, known as resin regeneration.
